lessons for the month of aug-sept

As a creative, you must show up. If you do not show up, then you fail. 

An artist draws. The only way an artist fails is if you do not draw. 

The more you create, the more you want to create. Creating is giving of yourself, while making yourself bigger in the process. 

As a creative, it is up to you to create your own rituals to keep the creative stream unblocked, and to sharpen your skills. These rituals are as serious as you take them. How seriously you take them shows how serious you are about yourself and what you do. If you are serious about your rituals, you will move heaven and earth to make sue they get done.

Love your job. If you don’t love your job, then get a new job. 

Sometimes, with the relationships you maintain in life, it is necessary to be black and white. Is this relationship nurturing you and making you feel appreciated for who you are? Or is it devaluing you and bringing you down? If it’s the latter, then save yourself and get out immediately. If you feel like you are being slighted, or treated unfairly, then you probably are. Listen to your feelings. 

Be giving and sincere, but protect yourself from narcissists and crazymakers trying to leech off of you. 

It is your duty to yourself to do whatever it takes to be happy, and to break out of bad cycles, and you don’t owe anyone an explanation for doing what needs to be done. 

When you’re faced with a tough decision, ask your self what kind of story you want to tell with your life. You will find that it makes things clearer. 

In your relationships and personal dealings, know your intentions and communicate them clearly. 

Above all, never, ever lie to yourself.
