8 things i collect
1) Frogs
I have them in all shapes and sizes. I sculptures, and paintings, and little figurines. I have unique pieces, and ordinary pieces from all over the world. I have frogs made of glass, silver, stone, crystal, resin, wood, and plastic. They all have stories. I’ll tell you all about each one of them some day.
2) People
I collect people and their life stories. I like to know what people are all about. I like to know what interesting and unusual decisions they’ve made in life, and why. I like to know what their views are on love, sex, religion, and politics. I like to know their politically incorrect thoughts and opinions, the ones they’re secretly proud of. I like to know their favorite songs. I like collecting people.
3) Men’s hands
I collect memories of men’s hands. With every man I’ve ever been in love with, I remember what his hands look like. I’ve liked men with bad hands, that I tried not to notice. Clumsy, banana fingers. And there were men whose hands I could stare at for hours as they turned pages of a book, played an instrument, held a pen, opened a jar, untangled a knot… mundane things.
4) Graphic novels
Self-explanatory.
5) Surfaces to write on
I love paper. I love bound paper. I love journals, diaries, notebooks. I love them as beautiful objects in themselves, and not necessarily as functional items. Some of them, I never want to write on. I just want to smell them and feel the pages in between my thumb and index.
6) Smells
I collect smell-memories. Once I’ve smelled someone up-close, I remember what they smell like forever. I can pick up a used t-shirt, sniff it, and be able to tell who owns it. I remember what places smell like, too. I love the thrill of finding two places in opposite ends of the world that smell alike. I’ve found 2 churches that smell the same, one in the UK, and one in Sydney.
7) Food that is B.T.S. (Better than Sex)
B.T.S. or at least more reliably satisfying. El Janna Lebanese Charcoal Chicken tops the list. I need to make a proper list.
8) Jewelry
Not the real stuff. But I have boxes overflowing with rings, earrings, necklaces, and all manner of frivolous trinkets and baubles. I can live without clothes, just give me lots of jewelry to wear.
